Tempe, AZ alternative rockers The Maine are excited to announce American Candy, their fifth full-length studio album due out March 31st, 2015 via 8123. Immediately following the album's release, the band will head out on a North American headlining tour that will see them headlining bigger rooms than ever before, kicking off with a massive hometown show at Tempe's Marquee Theatre on April 3rd. The tour hits most major cities and includes a show at the Best Buy Theater in New York City, two nights at Anaheim's House of Blues and will feature support from Real Friends, Knuckle Puck, and The Technicolors along the whole run. American Candy was produced and mixed by Colby Wedgeworth and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Tom Coyne at Sterling Sound (Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith).
On Monday night, the band released the first single off of American Candy, "English Girls," a song that harkens back to their roots as a playful American rock band. Fans quickly began to listen, share and love the new track - in less than 4 days, "English Girls" as garnered more than 92,000 streams on Soundcloud, 84,000 views on its official lyric video (
watch). The song will impact radio later this month. Additionally, the band revealed the album's release date, album art, and tracklist for fans via their website where digital and physical preorders are now available.
The Maine - John O'Callaghan (vocals),
Kennedy Brock (guitar, vox), Jared Mocaco (guitar), Garrett Nickelsen (guitar), and Pat Kirch (percussion) - met while growing up in the Phoenix, AZ area. Over the past eight years, they have released four full-length albums - 2008's debut Can't Stop Won't Stop, 2010's major label debut Black & White, 2011's Pioneer, and 2013's
Brendan Benson produced Forever Halloween. In addition to an impressive catalogue of music,
The Maine have built a loyal and tight knit fanbase through extensive worldwide touring both as headliners and in support roles - touring alongside the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Augustana, Good Charlotte, and dozens more. They've hit major festivals across the world including SXSW (where they'll be returning in 2015), Pukkelpop, Soundwave, and
Lowlands among others.
After recording their last album completely analog, the band decided to maintain the raw aspect of that recording style while in the studio this time around. Using a collection of only their own personal tools (all recording equipment, mics, instruments, pedals, amps, etc.) that they have collected throughout their years of touring and recording, the band tracked all 10 songs on American Candy in Joshua Tree this past fall at a rented house that they converted into a studio. The result is a solid collection of tight, catchy songs that will remind fans why they fell in love with
The Maine in the first place. O'Callaghan says of the record:
"A sort of innocence resounds throughout it that to me is reminiscent of our headspace in years past. We set out to bounce things a bit more sonically and produce a record that has an energy throughout. I believe this record has birthed a rejuvenated and optimistic outlook on life that we can only hope is evident and contagious within the 8123 family." -John
