THE LIGHTHOUSE AND THE WHALER have just released their new EP Paths, today (October 6). The EP is the bands highly anticipated follow up to their 2015 album Mont Royal, which received glowing support from the likes of Rolling Stone, Paste Magazine, and NPR.
Paths opens with cold, crisp guitar, growing into their anthemic title track. "Made of Water" adds a dancy catchiness whose delicate synth leads into the strong otherworldly sounscapes of "Ascending". The powerfully hopeful singalong "We Can Make It" heightens the energy of the record plunging it into the reverberant, cinematic atmosphere of the final track, "Light Waves", who's spirit becomes a driving force through the end of the EP.
"I always believed art was about understanding," says Lead singer-songwriter Michael LoPresti. "The songs on 'Paths' came during a period where I was struggling with some of the truths I had prescribed to in my life. Things like family, spirituality, and where I fit into the world. I think 'Paths' is my way of understanding some of that, or at least the first step on the journey. We're all on a path, I'm just trying to find mine. I hope the songs we've made help people in whatever place in life they find themselves in, like I said before art is, in my estimation, about understanding and maybe together we can find what we need."
