The Italian Academy is kicking off its fall season in conjunction with The League of Composers/ISCM with a fantastic, free concert of five world premieres and works tonight, October 16th at 7pm.
Titled Modernism Through a Northern Italian Lens, the centerpiece of this evening will be a world premiere from Milanese master,Giacomo Manzoni, who will be present for the premiere. Two of his former students, Peyman Farzinpour and Daniele Venturi, will also have premieres alongside John McLachlan and Manzoni's American contemporary, Martin Boykan. Works by Columbia University's own Georg Friedrich Haas and Fred Lerdahl accompany those of Dina Koston and Robert Martin. The evening's magnificent featured performers are the Cygnus Ensemble, soprano Elizabeth Farnum, and two guitar quartets: Bodies Electric and the Queens-based Sheer Pluck.Videos
