It's all about guitar heroes this January at The Iridium, as some of the instrument's most versatile players including Grammy-winner Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Jimmy Vivino (Conan), Jim Weider (The Band), Joe Louis Walker, Oz Noy, Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan), and more take the stage. Here are just some of the highlights:
Jan 6-8: The Oz Noy Twisted Blues Band feat. Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan), Reese Wynans & Roscoe Beck - Guitarist Oz Noy has performed with an endless array of talent, including Warren Haynes, Allen Toussaint, and Cyndi Lauper. He'll perform special sets at The Iridium with Stevie Ray Vaughan guitarist Chris Layton, Reese Wynans, and Roscoe Beck.
Jan 11: A Salute to 2012 NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman (5:30pm) - Special guests including 2012 Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, Jeff Newell, Martha Lorin, Bill Nolte, Charles West, Laury Shelly, and Bill Pernice take the stage for a special early show honoring 2012 NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman. Singer-songwriter Joanie Pallatto and pianist-composer Bradley Parker-Sparrow will also perform original music and improvisations.
Jan 13-15: Joe Louis Walker Band "Tribute to Mike Bloomfield" feat. Jimmy Vivino and Jim Weider; Jan 16 Joe Louis Walker & J Geils w/ The Les Paul Trio - Blues great Joe Louis Walker brings his "Cadillac of a voice" (NY Times) back to The Iridium stage for a tribute to Mike Bloomfield with a slew of special guests, including guitarists Jimmy Vivino and Jim Weider Jan 13-15 and a Les Paul Monday performance Jan 16 featuring J Geils.
Jan 17-18: NRBQ - NRBQ's versatile eclecticism has earned them fans from Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney to Elvis Costello and Keith Richards, and luminaries including Bonnie Raitt and Dave Edmunds have recorded their songs. The current lineup centers around founding member and keyboard iconoclast Terry Adams.
Jan 27-29 - Steve Stevens w/ Sebastian Bach, Jan 30 w/ The Les Paul Trio - Grammy-winner Steve Stevens came to national prominence in the 80's for his sizzling guitar work with Billy Idol, though he's led an incredibly varied career recording with everyone from Michael Jackson to Ric Ocasek. He'll be joined Jan 27-29 by special guest vocalist Sebastian Bach, and he'll sit in with the Les Paul Trio Jan 30.
