In the 1930s Django Reinhardt took Paris by storm. The Belgian guitarist has been dead for more than 60 years, but a cottage industry has long thrived on his inventions.
The Hot Club of San Francisco (named after Reinhardt's Quintette du Hot Club de France) not only renew Reinhardt's compositions for the hipster audience of today, but channel his essence into other pieces as well.
With 13 albums and over 20 years as an ensemble, the Hot Club of San Francisco has wowed audiences the world over. To hear the ensemble live is to be carried back to the '30s into the small, smoky jazz clubs of Paris, the refined lounges of the famous Hotel Ritz, and the hallowed halls of the Moulin Rogue.
On November 14th at 7:30pm, the world-renowned Hot Club of San Francisco will transport RiverCenter audience members to another time and place with their exuberant Gypsy Jazz Swing style!
The Hot Club of San Francisco borrows the instrumentation of violin, bass, and guitars from the original Hot Club while breathing new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group's superb lead guitarist, Paul Mehling.
The group also features the amazing violin of twice GRAMMY Award-winning Evan Price, the velvet voice of Isabelle Fontaine, and a swinging rhythm section with Sam Rocha on bass and Jeff Magidson and Fontaine on rhythm guitar.
With frequent national and international tours-from Iceland to Lincoln Center and a regular engagement at the Monterey Jazz Festival-the Hot Club of San Francisco keeps this historic music fresh alive and exciting for new generations of fans.
Tickets are $23.00 - $39.00 and can be purchased online at rivercenter.org, by phone at 706.256.3612, or in the Box Office, Monday - Friday, 10:00am - 5:30pm.
