The Recording Academy has changed a rule which made artists who had been previously nominated for a Grammy Award ineligible for the award for Best New Artist, the New York Times reports.  Under the new rule, only those who have previously released complete albums or won previous Grammy Awards are ineligible.

At the 2010 Grammy Awards, Lady Gaga was ineligible for the Best New Artist Award because her single 'Just Dance' had been nominated for a 2009 Grammy for Best Dance Recording.  Had this new rule been implemented at the time, Lady Gaga would have been eligible.
