The Five Irish Tenors Come to the MAC 2/12

Direct from Dublin, The Five Irish Tenors bring their "Salute to Ireland" to the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at College of DuPage, Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. This concert is part of the first tour ever in North America of Ireland's most popular ensemble, and has been specially created for the United States and Canada. A MAC Chat precedes the concert at 1 p.m. In anticipation of the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday, the MAC will be offering special Valentine's Day inspired cocktails and complimentary post-show chocolates in conjunction with this performance

The Five Irish Tenors fuses Irish wit and boisterous charm, with lyricism, dramatic flair and operatic style to create a unique Irish tenor concert experience. Featuring both famously beloved Irish song and opera arias in combinations of tenor solos, duets, trios, quartets, quintets and tutti, this distinctive program includes, among others, W.B Yeats's "Down by the Sally Gardens," the traditional Irish folk song "She Moves Through the Fair," Brendan Graham's "You Raise Me Up," Chauncey Olcott's popular Celtic ballads "My Wild Irish Rose" and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling," Irving Berlins' patriotic "God Bless America," the glorious "Danny Boy" and much more.

The Five Irish Tenors are as follows:

  • Morgan Crowley (Tenor). Awards and distinctions include the John McCormack and Luciano Pavarotti Awards and London Critics Choice Award. He has appeared in multiplatinum videos, five solo albums and a Grammy-winning CD.
  • Ciarán Kelly (Tenor). Touring credits include "Celtic Woman" 2012 U.S. tour, and a national tour with Opera Theatre Company's production of "Carmen."
  • George Hutton (Tenor) has toured Canada, Belgium and Holland with the Ireland-based choral ensemble Anúna, and performed at London's Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC "BBC Proms Youth Choir.
  • Alan Leech (Tenor) was appointed as tenor to the Irish National Chamber Choir in 2002. Career highlights include international touring and a performance for President Obama at the White House.
  • David Martin (Tenor). Opera credits include "La Boheme," "La Traviata," "Tosca" and others. He has performed in major theaters in Ireland including the Cork Opera House and National Concert Hall, as well as in the U.K. and across Europe.

Pianist/composer/arranger is Feargal Murray, who was choir director for Celtic Woman's "A Christmas Celebration: Live from Dublin" and composed and performed an award-winning adaption of "The Rape of Lucrece" for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Pianist and Music Director is Danny Forde, a Fulbright scholar who has assisted award-winning internationally acclaimed film score composer Lucas Videl on scores for major motion pictures including, "Fast and Furious 6" starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, "Cold Light of Day," starring Bruce Willis and Sigorney Weaver, and others.
