Bill Laswell will perform live for a one-night only event with Hideo Yamaki and Dave Douglas at The Drawing Center this Friday night.
Bill Laswell is a legendary iconoclast bassist / producer who has worked with Hideo Yamaki since the 1980s in many diverse and unprecedented configurations. Together, they have established a dialogue between bass and drums that explodes with fluid, spontaneous blasts of feeling, an ever expanding, dynamic matrix.
Hideo Yamaki is Japan's most renowned, respected, and in demand drummer. He is a veteran of countless recording and live projects with Japans most celebrated pop and rock artists. He has also collaborated with Japanese icons such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Toshinori Kondo, DJ Krush, Akira Sakata, and many others.
Dave Douglas (special guest) is one of the leading trumpeters of his generation. His transcendent style and sweeping vision earned him the DownBeat Critics Poll title Trumpet Player of the Year, a title he has won thirteen times in the past fifteen years. Over the course of his career, he has worked with the group Masada led by John Zorn, Horace Silver, Anthony Braxton, Joe Lovano, and many others.
The Drawing Center, a museum in Manhattan's SoHo district, explores the medium of drawing as primary, dynamic, and relevant to contemporary culture, the future of art and creative thought. Its activities, which are both multidisciplinary and broadly historical, include exhibitions; Open Sessions, a curated artist program encouraging community and collaboration; the Drawing Papers publication series; and education and public programs.
The show will take place Friday, August 19 at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 7:00 pm
