Season 3 of Unison Media's acclaimed concert series The Crypt Sessions continues on April 26, with the extraordinary countertenor John Holiday singing a program that will include Italian Baroque arias, French chansons, a song cycle by African-American composer Margaret Bonds, and a selection of spirituals and standards near and dear to his heart.
Holiday won the 2017 Marian Anderson Award, and last fall sang in the world premiere of Daniel Roumain's We Shall Not Be Moved, which was directed by Bill T. Jones at Opera Philadelphia's O17 Festival and New York City's Apollo Theater. He made his Kennedy Center debut in February, and will tour in April and May with Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil, singing Bernstein's Chichester Psalms in Los Angeles, New York, London and Paris.
In addition to his heralded opera performances, Holiday has become known for his jazz and spiritual renditions, accompanying himself at the piano or playing with his jazz ensemble as part of his "Holiday Experience" shows.
Due to rapid sell-outs and long waiting lists, each new concert will be announced immediately after the one preceding it, first to the mailing list, then via The Crypt Sessions website (http://deathofclassical.com/) and Facebook page.
Each Crypt Session will feature a pre-concert reception included in the ticket price, with a tasting of food and wine that is paired to the themes and moods of that evening's music, prepared by Ward 8 Events.
All proceeds from ticket sales of The Crypt Sessions are donated to the Church of the Intercession, where the crypt is located. The Crypt Sessions will once again be made possible by the extraordinarily generous sponsorship of Yamaha, who provide their wonderful pianos for the performances.
