Tesha and DOV wrote the song together and both identify as clear queers. Their concept and identity behind coming out, however, is not only about sexual orientation, says Tesha:"We live in an oppressed world locked in our mind's perceptions of things. Our meaning of coming out was in all aspects of life. Being gay, being queer; it's a new spiritual movement for us. It's about allowing yourself to be free, to be different, to be individual and weird; this is what coming out is about."
DOV adds, "We wrote this song about that blind belief and 'heroism' that people take upon themselves, even to their deaths, believing in a failing cause: an eighteen year old soldier stepping heroically into a room with a bomb trying to 'save' his country...a young, talented kid forsakes his body's and mind's sexual identity just because he doesn't want to get kicked out of his house and hear the word 'faggot' in school every day. This is the war that we lead in our head every day, trying to fit, to be 'normal', to be accepted."
Known as TESHA ????, the forward thinking singer-songwriter and producer creates self empowering, ruminative and equality driven experimental electro-acoustic focused on the wonders and unknowns of life. Born in Israel and raised playing her mother's living room piano, she drew inspiration from the likes of Laurie Anderson, Kate Bush and the classical era. After the loss of both parents during adolescence-early 20's, her purpose was ignited and soon dedicated her life to music. A year later, she moved to Brooklyn, piecing together hours of self-taught vocals and experimentation with synth production. Embracing the unknown, she transcribed the visuals delivered from her dreams. An intrinsically beautiful place where form, rawness, vulnerability and unconditional love runs free. While in this place, she learned to overcome many of life's obstacles. Walking forward, and coming back with treasures from dark recesses, sculpting the framework of her self-released debut EP, Growing Pain II.
