The Empty Pockets Holiday Concert
Thursday, December 6
$28/$35/$38/$42
The Empty Pockets' often cerebral and sometimes playful indie rock sound is built on a foundation of Americana, blues, and Motown soul. An old-school sensibility showcased by multiple lead singers, rich harmonies, and skilled instrumentalists sets rootsy Chicago outfit Empty Pockets apart. Following their success as a Buddy Holly Tribute act, the foursome began an expedition to stomp on the floorboards, sing to the rafters, dance on their instruments, and create music completely on their own. The Pockets return to their Chicago hometown for this special evening of music filled with critically acclaimed originals and holiday favorites.

$38/$45/$48/$52
The Brooklyn-based MC Talib Kweli is considered one of the most lyrically-gifted, socially aware and politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last two decades. After nearly 20 years of releasing mesmerizing music, Kweli stands as one of the world's most talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black Star, partnering with producer Hi-Tek for Reflection Eternal, releasing landmark solo material, or collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, J Dilla, or Madlib, Kweli commands attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over virtually any type of instrumental.
In 2011, Kweli founded Javotti Media, which is self-defined as "a platform for independent thinkers and doers." Kweli has set out to make Javotti Media (which released his 2011 album, Gutter Rainbows, and is named after his paternal grandmother) into a media powerhouse that releases music, films and books. Kweli will be performing at City Winery as part of his 2019 tour in support of his newest album, Radio Silence, which was released on November 17, 2017.

Trey McLaughlin & the Sounds of Zamar are fresh off a competition win for their rendition of "Chasing After You," which afforded them a feature on GRAMMY® award-nominated artist Vashawn Mitchell's "Triumphant" (Deluxe Edition) DVD. The group released their full-length debut album Limitless in 2012, and their single "I Will Praise" debuted in the 63rd spot on the Billboard Gospel Charts.
Kandace Springs
Sunday, February 17
$25/$28/$32/$35
Kandace Springs can assimilate multiple musical touchstones and still come off sounding remarkably fresh and unburdened by the past. Springs attracted the attention of Prince, who heard her makeover of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" on the website Okayplayer. The music icon invited her to perform with him at Paisley Park for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain. The 28-year-old, Nashville-based singer-songwriter and pianist counts such stylists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, and Norah Jones as her heroes, but, as evidenced by her latest full-length Blue Note Records release Indigo, Springs mimics none of them.
