Kweli reflects on what the album means to him, and his mindset when creating it, "I wanted to create an album that showcased my growth as a musician and I feel I've done that whether people understand its vision or not... This is not an album that owes its inspiration to an aesthetic, this is the sound I heard in my head."

Silence speaks directly to Kweli's desire to never be silenced. Working on the album on and off for four years gave him a perspective that he hadn't had before, he saw himself grow in new directions. The song, which was produced by J Rhodes, is brought to life in the video that juxtaposes two man's lives and their trials and tribulations that come with doing the right thing and grappling with what it means to be successful.
