The Music of Junk! - the light-hearted, feel-good concert experience inspired by the belief that "one man's garbage is another man's gold" - rolls into the Waterfront Theatre, tonight, November 18 - 22, 2015.
Adapted from the 2014 Fringe Festival musical, the production features 12 multi-talented musicians and singers performing instruments crafted from everyday objects - 'garbage bag' bagpipes, a 'wheel barrow' bass, a 'wine glass' harp, and more - creating toe-tapping tunes that will have audiences grooving in their seats!
"Throughout the development of The Music of Junk! I was amazed by how much 'stuff' we toss away every day without consideration for where it ends up," says Paul Snider, Creator, Composer and Director. "Each instrument represents items of garbage saved from the landfill, which have been innovatively repurposed to produce fantastic sound. In this newly-adapted concert experience, we encourage audiences to take a closer look at, and appreciate, the objects being discarded, and discover the music and fun these reimagined materials can provide for the whole family!" In The Music of Junk! - a must-see production for STOMP loving audiences - more than 20 rare and unusual instruments fill the stage. The performance's gifted cast of local musicians and singers masterfully drums, strums, and sounds their junkyard contraptions to create heartfelt ballads and spirited beats. A few of the most striking devices include the 'Recycolin', a violin-type instrument, which combines pieces of plywood, paper maché and an old baseball bat, coupled with the 'Ballute Machine', made of 15 flute-style devices connected to balloons with a garden hose, and the 'Autodrum', a timpani built from the front end of a 1999 Honda Accord.Videos
