Today Swedish singer-songwriter Marlene released her new single, "Miss You a Little," (Spotify - YouTube) via her own label, SWEET MUSIC. The soulful, personal ballad puts words to those quiet nights after a breakup, when the warmth of another person is gone and you're left with your own thoughts.
"This song is about those lonely and hurtful nights after a breakup that you spend alone. You're used to holding someone but now you have no idea where this person is or who they're with," shared Marlene. "You can distract yourself during the day but when the night comes you have to make it through on your own.
Nothing makes a breakup as definite as those nights." (Lyrics below)
The new single follows the release of the singer-songwriter's June EP, Sweet, which Billboard Magazine called, "One of 2017's most revelatory listens... Sweet, the sophomore EP from Swedish singer-songwriter Marlene that oscillates between heartbreak and infatuation over shimmering, rhythmic production."
Led by the intoxicating, "Next to Me," which V Magazine described as, "a dancefloor favorite, reminiscent of vintage Robyn and Paula Abdul," the Sweet EP is a fresh take on the idea of a concept album, telling the story of a relationship from its start, with songs moving in chronological order, documenting the exhilaration of those first few days to the insecurities, doubts and second-guessing everyone experiences as love becomes more serious.
While new to the mainstream audience in the U.S., Marlene's writing and production work is well known within the music industry, where she's approaching 10 million Spotify streams on her own label, SWEET MUSIC. The fashionable Swede has drawn raves from artists like Tove Lo, who said, "She's a great songwriter, producer and her voice gives me goose bumps, like everywhere," (
via Noisey) and Marina & The Diamonds, who asked Marlene to remix their latest release, "Froot" (
SoundCloud).
In 2015, electronic music pioneer
Giorgio Moroder heard her debut EP "Indian Summer," fell in love and immediately flew to Sweden to re-record "
I Do This For You" with her for his own album
Déjà Vu, which featured their collaboration alongside others with Sia,
Charli XCX and Britney Spears. Just last summer, her single, "
All I Want," became a surprise radio hit in Sweden, going on to soundtrack the Scandinavian summer.
