Guest vocalist Steve Marvin joins the Capital Jazz Orchestra in A Centennial Salute to Frank Sinatra on Friday, January 16, at 7:30pm. The first and possibly the greatest American musical superstar, Frank Sinatra was inarguably one of the most successful, multi-talented entertainers of the 20th century, singing with the most popular big bands of the 40s, pursuing a successful solo recording career, and earning Academy Awards as an actor. Backing Mr. Marvin in this centennial salute to the musical legacy of the Chairman of the Board is the acclaimed Capital Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Clayton "Skip" Poole.

Steve Marvin had been praised by The Jazz Messenger (June 1994) as "an unusually talented and versatile jazz vocalist from Revere, MA ... comfortable performing a range of musical genres, including Jazz, Blues, and Cabaret. Performing the Great American Songbook, Steve sings with the style and soul of Frank Sinatra, the jazz feel of Jon Hendricks, and the balladry of a Mel Torme."

A Roxbury native, Steve studied percussion and voice at Boston's Berklee School of Music and went on to perform as a drummer/vocalist backing Top 40 Boston Doo-Wop group the G-Clefs. He went on to play with the U.S. Army Band in France where he was able to refine his vocal styling while off duty in Paris working at a number of the left bank clubs as well as the famed Blue Note. Since his time in Paris, Steve has gone on to perform in noted jazz clubs the world over and has also shared the Lincoln Center stage with Norah Jones.

The Capital Jazz Orchestra is a distinguished group of big band veterans comprised of alumni from such well known Orchestras as Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, and the band of Toshiko Akiyoshi. They have collectively shared the stage with such stars as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Jack Jones, and Joe Williams to name only a few. This handpicked ensemble, comprised of some of the best big band jazz musicians across the United States, has enjoyed capacity houses on a recent national tour and has been met with critical acclaim for their energized performances.

Music Director Clayton Poole, or "Skip" as he is known to his family and friends, is enjoying his 34th year of bringing professional quality music to appreciative audiences throughout the United States. In addition to his work with the Capital Jazz Orchestra, he has served as music director for such diverse groups as the The Northeast Symphony Orchestra, The New England Society Orchestra, and The New England Wind Symphony.
