At Monday's Television Critics Association summer press tour, new LATE SHOW host Stephen Colbert revealed that Kendrick Lamar would be his first musical guest. Coming full circle, the singer served as the final musical guest on The Colbert Report.

As BWW reported last week, Colbert had revealed that his first non-musical guest would be Hollywood A-lister George Clooney. The CBS late night talk show will return to New York's Ed Sullivan Theater on Sept. 8.

Speaking on the upcoming presidential election Colbert quipped to reporters, "Every little boy grows up believing they could be president of the United States. I'm so happy that little boy is Donald Trump. Please stay healthy until I get on the air." He added, "Every night before I go to bed I light a candle and pray that he stays in the race, and I also pray that no one puts that candle anywhere near his hair."

Colbert also revealed that some remodeling has been done to the iconic Ed Sullivan Theater, explaining that is has been restored to highlight the venue's original 1920s architecture. making it look more like a traditional Broadway theater than a TV studio.

Asked what his criteria for guests would be, he replied, "somebody with something to say." He also put down the idea that he is 'at war' with his fellow late night hosts. "Competition's not that fun to me. We have fun with each other all day long" while producing the show. "I hope everybody does the same and has fantastic ratings. I don't really care."
