The boundary-shattering Stavanger Symphony Orchestra is thrilled release the official CD recording of Mortensen Symphony Op. 5, recorded by Grammy-nominated engineer Jim Anderson in Dolby 5.1 and 9.1. Anderson was featured in this month's issue Stereophile for his use of the use of CAR-60 phono cartridge, which the magazine described as giving the audio an, "intensely well-focused, supremely stable, three-dimensional orchestral picture." Stavanger's Mortenson Symphony originally debuted as a digital release in December of last year, though, the release is also available on BluRay with a vinyl release set for this summer on June 8.

The release caps off what's been a tremendous year from one of the most forward-thinking orchestras of the century. Its ongoing immigrant support project-read more at Drowned in Sound-peaked with a massive free concert for recent immigrants to Norway in the foyer of the Stavanger Concert Hall. It just premiered a rushing, stunt-heavy music video for its recording of Brahms Symphony No. 2 (Abridged Kverndokk Radio Edit) through leading ski magazine Freeskier, featuring footage taken directly from the upcoming documentary Heedless, which focuses on the extreme skiing of Norway's own Dennis Risvoll. And this is all after past years spent collaborating with popular music icons such as experimental outfit Kaada/Patton (Mike Patton of Faith No More, and John Kaada), pioneering Detroit techno figure Jeff Mills, and legendary drummer Stewart Copeland of The Police.
