Star Kitchen, the exciting new outfit from bassist Marc Brownstein (The Disco Biscuits), has announced the special guests for their upcoming late-night show at The Maison during this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Sunday, April 28th. For their NOLA late-night, the nascent band-which also features Danny Mayer (Eric Krasno Band), Rob Marscher (Jennifer Hartswick Band/Matisyahu), and Marlon Lewis (Lauryn Hill/John Legend)-will welcome keyboardist and fellow Disco Biscuits member Aron Magner as well as a slew of Jazz Fest late-night stalwarts: guitarist Eric Krasno (Soulive/Lettuce), vocalist Shira Elias (Turkuaz), and saxophonist Khris Royal (Rebelution).
Krasno needs no introduction to Jazz Fest audiences, having wowed crowds for years with his many appearances with Lettuce and Soulive, as well as the countless one-off shows and supergroups that he has been a part of and helped to create, such as his annual show with the Daze Between Band. Krasno has sat in with Star Kitchen on two previous occasions-at Brooklyn Bowl and on Jam Cruise.
The addition of Aron Magner, Brownstein's long-time musical partner-in-crime, will surely excite fans of the Disco Biscuits that are making the trek to New Orleans. With the Disco Biscuits coming to New Orleans for the first time in over a decade during this year's Jazz Fest, fans will have one more chance to catch the duo together when Magner brings his keyboard-wizardry to The Maison with Star Kitchen.
Shira Elias has become one of the most reliable show-stoppers in live music. While you can typically find her on tour with the power-funk outfit Turkuaz, Elias has made a name for herself in her own right, proving herself as a bandleader at Brooklyn Comes Alive with her 'Soul Tracks' set as well as at the February edition of Denver, CO's The Funk Sessions. Her powerful voice and commanding stage presence set her apart, and make her the perfect fit to add vocals to Star Kitchen's funk instrumentals.
Khris Royal's New Orleans roots run deep. The Crescent City native has played and recorded with a litany of legends, such as Christian Scott, Branford Marsalis, Mary J. Blige, Lettuce, and Erykah Badu, to name a few, while he performs regularly with NOLA icons such as Zigaboo Modeliste, Fred Wesley, Galactic, and more. Royal is a long-running member of George Porter Jr & the Runnin' Pardners, as well as a touring member of the reggae rock band, Rebelution.
