Houston-based Splice Records is thrilled to announce that they have just recently signed Austin-based, soul band Tomar & The FCs to their roster. Splice Founder and Owner Shaun Brennan first discovered Tomar & The FCs when he and a friend attended a show at historic Houston venue, the Continental Club in 2016. After Tomar & The FCs' electric, high-energy performance, Brennan immediately bought two of their albums and booked them to play Splice Records' annual River Revival Music Fest where they headlined the main stage during a Friday night slot. After continuously booking them at various venues in Houston and Austin, Brennan was compelled to work with the soul virtuosos and signed them in 2018.
"Soul music is something I have followed my whole life with my family roots starting in Detroit the birthplace of Motown," says Shaun Brennan. "There seems to be a contemporary soul movement happening across the states and I feel we are now working with the best soul band in Texas. That makes me proud to be a part of this project."
The band is comprised of vocalist Tomar Williams, David Earl on the organ, Mitch Fischels on the bass, Andy Tenberg on guitar and Paul Kresowik on the drums. The band is currently in the studio working on their second full-length album, set to be released later this year on Splice Records. Release date and details to be announced. Tomar & The FCs will also be headlining Splice Records' fourth annual River Revival Music Fest taking place the weekend of Sept. 27 - 30, 2018 along the Guadalupe River at the KL Ranch Camp "On the River" and "Cliffside" campgrounds in New Braunfels, Texas. "The band is quite driven and they are filled with absolute talent," said Brennan. "Tomar Williams was the perfect front man to join the band. His energy, his good nature and his voice connects with people of all ages. At Splice it is important for us to work with musicians and bands that can connect with every age and every demographic of music fan."
About Tomar & The FCs:
Tomar and the FCs is a soul band from Austin, Texas formed in 2015. Tomar Williams got his start singing lead on the Chitlin Circuit with his family band, spent decades as a keyboardist and backup vocalist (Latasha Lee and the Black Ties, Hot Butter Rhythm), and is an experienced hip-hop producer (Carnival Beats, Mike Jones, Big Moe).
The band made its live debut in March of 2015. They self-recorded and released their first EP "Day by Day" in October. The Austin American-Statesman picked it as a top release and wrote that "Williams shows his own soul chops with searing vocals that drip with blood, sweat and tears."
2016 saw the band become mainstays on the Austin scene and throughout Texas. In March, they were selected to play an official showcase at SXSW. In June, NPR Music picked Tomar and the FCs out of hundreds of Austin entries to represent the city for their Tiny Desk Concert Series.
"Heart Attack," the band's debut album, was released in November of 2016. It was recorded and mixed at Level One studio with Grammy-winning artist/engineer Adrian Quesada. KUTX wrote that the album is "Pure soul, pure energy...Heart Attack, the single from the band's latest album of the same name, is an electric three minute ride of some of the purest blues/soul we've heard lately."
In January of 2017, the band was selected as the KUTX Artist of the Month and were asked to play iconic Austin record store Waterloo Record's first in-store performance of the year. The band had a number of festival appearances in 2017, including River Revival, Eastside Kings, F1 Circuit of the Americas and Viva Big Bend, all culminating with an appearance at Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL). They were selected as the Austin Music Foundation's artist of the month for September and Austin 360's Artist of the Month for October.
In early 2018, the band was voted in the top five of the Austin Chronicle's Music Poll for Best Blues, Funk, or Soul Artist. In March, they returned to SXSW performing as official artists and were awarded a prestigious Black Fret nomination. In addition to a busy performance schedule, with an appearance at Old Settler's Music Festival and three summer tours, the band is hard at work on their third recording.
