Chicago-based Fonema Consort returns to NYC to make its Spectrum debut with an electrified program in collaboration with the MIKROS Festival on Wednesday, May 1st at 7:30pm. Featuring guest violinist Miranda Cuckson and guest saxophonist Will Fergason, the ensemble will take advantage of the progressive technology available at Spectrum using amplification, diffused audio and video to bring to life the works of some of their favorite rising composers. Highlights include the premiere of Catalan composer Joan Arnau Pàmies' work [IVsax(op_VIvln-c)], and the U.S. premiere of Chicago composer Jonathon Kirk's Spirits and Elements.
This program will be followed by a 45 minute improvisation set led by bassist Kathryn Schulmeister and the brilliant Anthony Coleman as part of the MIKROS Festival.
Curated by Miiryn, MIKROS is a mini-festival of concerts presenting new and experimental music by a variety of independent artists from Chicago, Montreal, and New York. Performances will take place at different venues in New York for 4 consecutive days and will feature diverse interpretations of new music and improvisations. For a complete schedule, please visit:
