Sony/ATV Music Publishing announced today that it has signed a worldwide publishing deal with songwriter and artist Maluma. The agreement covers Maluma's catalog as well as future songs, and includes his current hit single "Felices Los 4", a song which is currently #2 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs Chart and which became the most watched Spanish language video on YouTube worldwide within a span of 24 hours. It also includes Shakira's mega hit single "Chantaje", featuring Maluma, a song which spent 11 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs Chart and which has 1.5 billion views on YouTube to date.
Martin Bandier, Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO, said: "Latin music's ever growing popularity has already transcended borders, cultures, and musical styles. Maluma is uniquely positioned to be its face for the world both for today and for the future. I couldn't be more excited that we have signed this incredibly talented songwriter and artist."
Maluma said: "I am very happy and honored to be part of the Sony ATV family. This is my first major publishing deal and I know that I couldn't have chosen a better partner to take this step with, they are the very best in the business. I look forward to taking my career as a songwriter to the next level together with Sony/ATV."
Jorge Mejia, Sony/ATV President for Latin America and U.S. Latin, said: "There is no one out there quite like Maluma today. There is a certain magic that happens when he goes on stage - you go to any concert and his fans are riveted, singing every word of every song at the top of their lungs. We are unbelievably excited to have him join our family and can't wait to be a part of his future success."
Hailing from Medellín, Colombia, Maluma is currently the only artist in any language with six music videos on YouTube's Global Music Chart, including his hits "El Perdedor" and "Sin Contrato".
Maluma's VEVO channel, including hit collaborations with Ricky Martin, Carlos Vives, Don Omar, Thalia and many others, alone has more than 6 billion views and nearly 10 million subscribers, while his Instagram and Facebook accounts have more than 26 million and 23 million followers respectively.
Maluma is currently on his Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy World Tour, with recent sold-out shows in Mexico, Spain, and the United States.
