Sony/ATV Music Publishing UK has been crowned Publisher of the Year at the 2018 Music Week Awards.
The company was recognized with the honour at the prestigious annual industry awards event held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London on Thursday night following a remarkably successful year, which included global success for its UK-signed songwriters including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Calvin Harris.
Sony/ATV UK Managing Director and President, Worldwide Creative Guy Moot said: "I am very proud of our songwriters and our team for winning this award after what has been another incredibly successful year for Sony/ATV UK. We never take these things for granted and are never complacent, but it's really great to be recognised in this way. This award is not just about the success we have had in the charts across the year, but is testament to everybody's efforts in all departments across the company."
Sony/ATV beat a shortlist including BMG, Kobalt, Universal Music Publishing and Warner/Chappell to win the Publisher of the Year award, which was determined by an expert judging panel and covers achievements over the last calendar year.
The company's win follows a hugely-successful 2017 for Sony/ATV, topped by the global success of its songwriter Ed Sheeran whose many achievements included being recognised in February as IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year. His album ÷ was this week named by IFPI as the biggest seller of 2017 globally with 6.1 million sales and his song "Shape Of You" the biggest single worldwide with 26.6 million sales.
However, Sheeran was one of a number of very successful Sony/ATV UK-signed songwriters during 2017 with others including Sam Smith whose second album The Thrill Of It All and its lead single "Too Good At Goodbyes" were worldwide hits, while other UK highlights included Calvin Harris who scored a global hit with the song "Feels" and singer/songwriter Jamie Scott who co-wrote a number of songs on and executive-produced Rag'n'Bone Man's debut release Human, which was only outsold in the UK in 2017 by Ed Sheeran's album.
