Sony/ATV Music Publishing Benelux has signed a worldwide deal with Dutch rapper Lil' Kleine aka Jorik Scholten in collaboration with music publishing company Hitmen, which is co-owned by Scholten.
The 24-year-old Amsterdam rapper broke through in 2013 with the hit song "Drank & Drugs", which he recorded with fellow rapper Ronnie Flex. This song was not only a big hit in the Netherlands and Belgium, it also hit the charts in Germany as "Stoff und Schnaps". This success was followed up by two multi-platinum albums, his 2016 debut WOP! and the 2017 follow-up Alleen. In 2017, Lil' Kleine won the MTV Award for Best Worldwide Act.
To date, Scholten's songs have been streamed more than 700 million times on Spotify, making him the most-streamed Dutch artist of all time. His successes include the No. 1 hits "Krantenwijk", "Miljonair" and "Verleden Tijd". The rapper has twice sold out Amsterdam indoor arena The Ziggo Dome, which is the biggest venue in the Netherlands, and will soon release a new album.
Sony/ATV Benelux Managing Director Niels Walboomers said: "Jorik is an icon in Dutch hip-hop history, who has broken all the records. We are very proud to represent him."
Lil Kleine: "I feel honoured to be able to work together with Sony/ATV, the world's largest music publisher. I want to provide an impulse to both the Dutch and international music industry."
Lil' Kleine's manager Nathan Moszkowicz said: I am very proud of Jorik that he has made another step in his career as an entrepreneur. We are always looking for progress and as a music publisher he can now also focus on the young talent that our country has to offer."
