On June 15, indie art-rock band Sky-Pony (pictured) will hit the stage of East Village club DROM. Since its formation a year ago, Sky-Pony has garnered a cult following for sets that blur the line between rock show and theatrical event. Most recently, they've played sold-out sets at Mercury Lounge and the Knitting Factory.
Deli Magazine writes, "Sky-Pony is not the simplest band to classify. They actually may not be best described as a band at all. Sky-Pony could be seen just as well as a burlesque show or carnival of sorts. Whatever you prefer, the rock performance artists have been dotting around NYC for a year now with their flashy costumes and careful choreography. You're never quite sure what to expect from one of their gigs."
It all happens on Saturday June 15 at Drom NYC (85 Avenue A, NYC). It's an early show, with Sky-Pony hitting the stage at 7pm. Tickets $10 in advance, $15 at the door. More info and advance sales at http://www.dromnyc.com/
Sky-Pony is a Brooklyn based band that serves up lush, lyrical, often cheeky indie-pop with a healthy dose of theatrics. They incorporate costumes, choreography, and projections into their high-energy live shows. Rock concert meets performance art meets burlesque, you might say. Their discography includes two EPs: Say You Love Me Like You Mean It and Raptured Live, both available on itunes.
Sky-Pony is led by Lauren Worsham (singer/actress who most recently appeared in New York City Opera's Turn of the Screw - see Time Out interview here) and her husband Kyle Jarrow (Obie Award winning playwright/composer known for A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant, Whisper House, also of the bands The Fabulous Entourage and Super Mirage). Sky-Pony also features the talents of Kevin Wunderlich, Jessi Suzuki, Megan Stern, Perry Silver, Eric Day and David Blasher. More info on the band at http://www.sky-pony.com.
