Over the years Detroit native/Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Chris Moore, who was honored with the title of "Songwriter of the Year" at the Detroit Monthly/Metro Times Music Awards in '93, '94 and '95, has spent years recording, performing and perfecting his blend of music styles. From his days as the drummer for Detroit's pioneering punk/hardcore band Negative Approach, to the roots-based outfit Crossed Wire, to his solo career and recording a number of albums under the moniker Moore & Sons, Moore's soulful mix of edgy folk, rock, pop and blues can be easily classified as alt-country-folk/rock, but his punk roots from his days with Negative Approach are evident through his serious lyrics with poetic depth. Three years after the release of his last record with Moore & Sons, "Holdouts", he returned with a new solo studio record, "Harmless Blues" in late January, released through CEN/RED.
The new single from "Harmless Blues", the lovely "The Mood Is On", features the folk sound Moore has become known for. Dowload the song

Over the years Moore has tackled and succeeded at more careers than can be explained with a paltry slash. As a teenager, Moore's first public personae was that of a multi-sponsored, skateboard competitor thanks to his wizardry on the skate parks, pools and ramps throughout Michigan, and the mid-west. At that time, he developed his skills as a drummer and his love of extreme activities soon let him to join Negative Approach.
Moving to Brooklyn in 1997, he has collaborated, recorded, and performed with a number of diverse New York and Detroit based artists, composed and performed in the off-Broadway production of Ugo's last dance, and reprised his role as drummer with Japan's avant-garde Boredoms in the 77 drummer Boa-Drum performance.
Since his first solo offering, "Outta States Plates", in 1999, he has toured with a broad range of artists including Alanis Morrisette, Tori Amos, and American Music Club. In addition to his three consecutive Songwriter of the Year at the Detroit Monthly/Metro Times Music Awards, he has been honored with the Abe Olman Scholarship (prior winners include
John Legend and Chris Tedesco) and the Musicians Atlas/Borders Book award (runner up).
To add to his numerous talents, he added yet another dimension to his artistic output when he relocated to Brooklyn - visual artist and printmaker. His watercolors display a startling acumen for colorful minimalism, and help make his album packaging even more of a personal artistic statement. Moore has been displaying new artwork at select gallery shows in and around New York and is proud to announce that he has been chosen to participate in a show at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit on May 29th.
On "Harmless Blues", Moore sets off to create an album that builds layers around the already powerful electrified-folk sound he has honed over the years and is a testament to his unique craft-man ship and unconditional love of songs.
