"The Ladies of Pop & Doo Wop" will take the stage at the Suncoast Showroom Oct. 10-11 while featuring notable girl group acts of the 1960s.
Shirley Alston Reeves, the original lead singer of The Shirelles, the first female pop/rock 'n' roll group credited with the girl group sound, will perform as part of "The Ladies of Pop & Doo Wop." Reeves debuted with The Shirelles in 1958 and graced the world's most famous stages, performing hits such as "I Met Him on a Sunday," "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," "Mama Said," and "Soldier Boy." Reeves left the group in 1975 to work on a solo career where she started performing under the name, "Lady Rose." That same year, she recorded the album "With a Little Help From My Friends," which featured members from other popular groups, including The Flamingos, The Drifters, Shep & the Limelites, and more. Reeves was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Shirelles in 1996, as well as the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2014. Her love of music and passion for soul continue to fuel her performances today.Videos
