Shakey Graves Announces Fall 2018 Tour Featuring Twin Peaks and The Wild Reeds Image

Shakey Graves announces international dates for The Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour for Fall 2018, with special guests Twin Peaks and The Wild Reeds. Future dates also include support from Jose Gonzalez & The Brite Lites, Rayland Baxter, The Aces, And The Kids, Jonathan Terrell, Lauren Ruth Ward, and Paul Cauthen. Shakey Graves' new album Can't Wake Upwas released on Friday via Dualtone Records.

From one moment to the next, Can't Wake Up veers from the inevitable to the revelatory, its thirteen songs teeming with jarring musical and thematic collisions and thrillingly seamless intersections, gnarly psychological hornswoggles and ecstatic resolutions. Central to the prevailing sense of disorientation are the lead vocals, none of which is purely solo. Instead, each lead performance is shadowed by a queasy harmony or slightly out-of-sync unison part, giving the sense-especially on headphones-that these voices are emanating from inside the listener's head.

"Armed with new instruments and a lifetime of dreams, he forgoes his boot-stomping, cheeky folk for a sound that fluctuates between finely-tuned rock and full-band pop," comments NPR's Nina Corcoran. "Alejandro Rose-Garcia pulls it off in large part due to his storytelling prowess; these songs would be welcoming, even enthralling, in any style."

"I've never worked like this before, but I went into the record with the idea of having a thesis statement of what I wanted to get across," Rose-Garcia explains. "And the place that I got at was that I wanted it to be vaguely Wizard of Oz-themed, and I wanted it to be hectic and a little uncomfortable, like what I refer to as the Big Five Disney cartoons: Pinocchio, Fantasia, Snow White, Dumbo andBambi. All those movies are terrifying-some of the most stressful movies I've ever seen. So I started with this Wizard of Oz thing-'Tin Man' that has obvious allusions to that-and the idea of black-and-white to color."

Shakey Graves is currently on the start of his first headlining tour this year with sold out shows in Brooklyn, Boston, DC, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago and others, climaxing with a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison (Denver, CO). Festival dates include performances at BottleRock, Sasquatch, Arroyo Seco Weekend, Newport Folk Festival, Pickathon, and Austin City Limits Music Festival. The Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour Tour for Fall 2018 commences in August, hitting NYC, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta and more in the US before continuing on through Europe.
