Scott L. Miller's RABA featuring Estonia's Ensemble U:, Laura Cocks & Dan Lippel out 3/16 Image

New Focus Recordings proudly presents Raba, the new album from composer Scott L. Miller featuring Estonia's Ensemble U:, flutist Laura Cocks, guitarist Daniel Lippel, and Scott L. Miller out on Friday, March 16, 2018. The works on this release reveal a two-decade compositional trend toward quieter, more patient, ambient music rooted in the environment of its origins or its performance. The original concept for this recording was that it should be a retrospective assemblage of previously unreleased audio-visual works from various collaborations Miller has been a part of since 2001. It quickly evolved into a collection of pieces from the past remade, and the impetus for new collaborations. In addition to this album, there is a limited edition DVD of five of the video collaborations with film and video artists Paul Clipson, Ron Gregg, Ted Moore, Rosemary Williams, and Mark Zaki.

The first release show will be at Studio Z in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 7:30pm featuring an evening of immersive audio, video, and comfort food. Guitarist Dan Lippel will perform works from the CD and film premieres from the Raba DVD will be screened. Limited Edition DVDs of the Raba audio-visual pieces will be for sale ($20). Audience members will also have an opportunity to experience the Virtual Reality studio version of the title piece. This activity is made possible through a grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, thanks to funds provided by The McKnight Foundation. This performance will be dedicated to the late Paul Clipson, who unfortunately passed away quite suddenly this winter.

More Dates TBA for release shows in New York and California. Raba is available on Amazon, iTunes, Naxos, Spotify & New Focus Recordings.
