Schimmel Center presents Two Of Ireland's Leading Traditional Ensembles ImageOn Sunday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m., the Schimmel Center presents a musical tour of Ireland through a performance by two of Ireland's leading traditional ensembles, Danú and Goitse. The concert culminates in a collaborative performance featuring both groups playing together for the first time in the United States, creating an Irish "big band" experience, just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Hailing from counties Waterford, Dublin, Donegal and Cork, Danú is known for its high-energy performances and its glorious mix of ancient Irish music and new repertoire. Throughout the past two decades, the seven member group's virtuosic flute, tin whistle, button accordion, and bouzouki players, together with vocals in both Irish and English, have performed around the globe and recorded seven critically acclaimed albums. Winners of numerous awards from the BBC and Irish Music Magazine, Danú has toured throughout Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Named Live Ireland's "Traditional Group of the Year", the quintet Goitse has become a leader in the new generation of traditional Irish ensembles, interspersing tunes from the countryside of Ireland and abroad together with their own compositions. The group includes world and all-Ireland Bodhrán champion Colm Phelan, in addition to guitarist Conal O'Kane, together with the vocals of Áine McGeeney. Goitse has released four critically acclaimed recordings and maintains an annual touring schedule that includes performances throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and the United States.
