Los Angeles-based artist Saro announced his upcoming Die Alone EP recently, due May 3 via Mateo Sound. Each of his songs is a direct channeling of raw feeling-a mission fulfilled through his freestyled melodies, untethered vocals, and lyrics sparked from pure stream-of-consciousness. The EP features the stripped-down and shimmering title song "Die Alone" (watch the video HERE) and "Please," a track that has been praised by the likes of Paper Magazine and Billboard and has been streamed more than a million times to-date.
Saro recently opened up on his thoughts on his relationship with gender and where it intersects with music and fashion for the Milk.xyz series "Gender Diaries." Read an excerpt below, and the full essay HERE: https://milk.xyz/articles/gender-diaries-saro.
"...though I identify as a man, I don't believe that gender is set in stone nor is it about how 'masculine' or 'feminine' you present. Gender in a binary sense is an outdated social construct. I like to think it falls on a spectrum the same way Kinsey explains sexuality. All humans have both 'masculine' and 'feminine' traits. The problem is how these traits are highlighted or suppressed based on societal stigmatization..."
Saro can also be heard on "Somebody Like You," the latest track from multi-platinum duo DVBBS. Out now via Ultra Records / Kanary Music, the track opens up with a sunny guitar lead that creates a smooth atmosphere leading up to the climax of the chorus. Saro's voice puts you in a longing infatuated daze, as he repeats "If we say goodbye, I'll never find somebody like you". As the song picks up, the beat builds leading into a full, lush sound combining the rhythm and sound driven timbre of the electronic sound, with the melodically pleasing vocals and lyrics creating an upbeat romantic tune. Hear it via Billboard and here:https://ffm.to/dvbbs-sly.
His live show is also a powerful experience, where he channels his deeply affecting electronic pop in convergence with unique movement and physicality that touches on performance art. Saro has taken his show to new heights, thrilling festival and club crowds nationwide. He is also set to perform new tracks and songs from his previous EPs In Loving Memory (2017) and Boy Afraid (2018) this Saturday, March 9, supporting Empress Of at her headline show at LA's El Rey Theatre.
