Up to 400 San Diego youth may get to attend the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus (SDGMC) summer show LUV Madonna-Music of the Material Girl free of charge thanks to a $5,000 matching grant to its "Be a Chorus Hero" program.
"We are excited to have this opportunity to reach out to our community's youth as part of our mission to create social change through song," said Director of Development David Pierce. "We can't think of anything more exciting than to introduce our Chorus to a new generation of audience members."
The grant from an anonymous donor has a goal of raising $10,000 total for youth tickets, matching donations dollar for dollar. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to help make this goal a reality for students and young people up to age 21 by making tax-deductible donations to SDGMC. Anyone interested in this opportunity should contact Pierce at development@sdgmc.org or by calling (877) 296-7664.
SDGMC's "Be a Chorus Hero" also is designed to help purchase tickets for the clients of local social services agencies. In the past, tickets have been provided to clients from Being Alive; The Center's Youth Services; the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN); the Lambda Archives Student Volunteer Program; the Media, the Visual & Performing Arts High School and Stepping Stone.
