The National Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) announced today that educator and entrepreneur Salman Khan, founder of Khan Academy, will deliver the opening keynote address on Monday, January 28, 2019, at the 39th annual event in Orlando, Florida. In his keynote, "The One World School House-Education Reimagined, " Khan will explain how Khan Academy is accelerating learning for millions of students around the world and share his vision for the future of education. Khan's engaging message will inspire the education and technology leaders attending FETC 2019, which will take place January 27-30 at the Orange County Convention Center.
"FETC attendees visit our conference each year to learn about the latest, most innovative uses of education technology to drive positive results for students, as well as the solutions that are just over the horizon," said Dr. Robert M. Avossa, Senior Vice President & Publisher, LRP Publications. "Considering these factors, Salman Khan represents one of the most appropriate and exciting keynote speakers possible for the 2019 event. He has taken the innovator's mindset to great heights, delivering top-notch education content to millions worldwide and demonstrating what is possible through technology. We look forward to having Khan at FETC 2019 and giving attendees the opportunity to hear his inspiring, valuable message."
In his keynote, Khan will tell FETC attendees the inspiring story of how he founded the not-for-profit Khan Academy and how the organization is educating millions of people worldwide. With over 150,000 practice problems and 52 million registered students in 190 countries, Khan Academy is rethinking the world of education. Khan will also share his thoughts on what education reimagined could look like and how his dream of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere could become a reality.
Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos and articles on a range of academic subjects including math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, finance, grammar, preschool learning and more. Using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology, it empowers learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom, while equipping teachers with tools and data so they can help their students develop the skills, habits and mindsets for success in school and beyond. As of December 2016, the Khan Academy channel on YouTube has more than 3.6 million subscribers and its videos have been viewed more than 1 billion times.
Khan and his achievements have been featured in numerous news outlets, including PBS NewsHour, CNN, NBC Nightly News and National Public Radio. In 2018, Khan won the San Francisco Chronicle Visionary of Year Award and, in 2012, Time named him to its annual list of the world's 100 most influential people. Khan Academy received the Microsoft Tech Award for education in 2009 and in 2010 Google provided $2 million to support the creation of more courses and enable Khan Academy to translate its core library into the world's most widely-spoken languages. FETC attendees will gain valuable insights from Khan's visionary use of technology to deliver positive education outcomes for students worldwide.
