STG to Celebrate 15th Anniversary of MORE MUSIC @ THE MOORE

Join STG in celebrating the 15th anniversary of its signature youth music program More Music @ The Moore, with international superstar and band-leader Sheila E. returning for her second year as Music Director.

For 15 years, STG has brought together young musicians from diverse music styles to learn through group collaborations while receiving mentorships from music industry professionals, as well as production and promotional support.

The program culminates with a live performance by the artists, joined by Sheila E., at The Moore on May 6, 2016 at 7:30 pm.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Seattle as Music Director for the 15th Anniversary of More Music @ The Moore," says Sheila E. "As a mentor, I hope to share some insight from my musical journey. Last year's young artists were very talented, and I look forward to working and performing with a new group of aspiring musicians for their time to shine."

Since 2002, STG's More Music @ The Moore program has been committed to celebrating the rich musical talent of youth in its community and providing musicians, regardless of what style they play, the opportunity to make music together. Over the years, the program has helped to provide local artists with the tools needed to further their careers in the music industry. Past participants in the program include Grammy®-nominee Chris Luquette; Nick Dumas, member of Bluegrass band Special Consensus; Emily Randolph of NBC's "The Voice," and the Lyric Opera's J'Nai Bridges, among others. Past Music Directors include Meshell Ndegeocello, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Stew and Heidi Rodewald, and the program's first Music Director, Michael Shrieve.

"For years now, More Music at The Moore has been providing first rate, professional and interactive music training for talented young adults in the Puget Sound region, and offering these young musicians invaluable exposure to not only other musicians that they most likely would never have met, but also to high caliber mentorship and guidance from unique professional musicians that have been practicing their craft in the real world for years," Shrieve says. "And this goes for the mentors as well. The kids that I worked with from the first several More Music @ The Moore sessions, are now grown up and to this day are some of my most cherished friendships."

This year's program features Singer-Songwriters, R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Hard Rock, Indie Rock, and Shoegaze artists, as well as a Klezmer violinist, a drummer, and a Russian Gypsy singer.

"When we started this program 15 years ago, it was about investing in the future generations of performing artists," says Vicky Lee, STG's Director of Education and Performance Programs. "We've seen so many creative musical accomplishments from these young artists through the years thanks to Music Directors who knew how to feed the fuel of talent. Michael Shrieve, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Stew & Heidi, Meshell Ndegeocello, and for the last two years the magnificent Sheila E."

Sheila E. (music director) is the world-class drummer and percussionist whose credits read like chapters in a music history book: Ringo Starr. Marvin Gaye, Prince, Beyoncé, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan and George Duke. She is the Grammy® and Emmy Award-nominated singer/songwriter behind the seminal hits "The Glamorous Life" and "A Love Bizarre." She is a fearless multi-instrumentalist, equally proficient on guitar and bass, as well as an actress, mentor, and philanthropist. These career checkpoints all converged in 2014 with two new Sheila E. projects including the release of her first album in 13 years, the aptly titled Icon (Stiletto Flats, March 25, 2014), then the indefatigable multi-talent added author to her list of accomplishments with Simon & Schuster's 2014 publication of her autobiography, The Beat of My Own Drum. (Sept 2, 2014) Sheila E.'s fierce, dynamic verve onstage has made her a major concert draw since the '90s. Along the way, she has acted in several films (Krush Groove, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, and Chasing Papi) and launched various music projects (C.O.E.D., E Family Band). While continuing to play with Prince on select gigs, she added to her arsenal of credits such names as Ringo Starr, Gloria Estefan and Beyoncé as well as performing on the 2012 Academy Awards with pop hit-maker Pharrell Williams and composer Hans Zimmer. The year will continue to bring forth the growth of Sheila E.'s entertainment company Stiletto Flats Inc. with the release of new artists and artistic projects.

This year's More Music @ The Moore performance takes place at The Moore Theatre onFriday, May 6th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now and are $15 (not including fees).
