A new song from a musical-within-the-show on NBC's musical drama series SMASH has just been released, featuring show star Megan Hilty.

The harpsichord-tinged patter tune, "A Letter From Cecile", appears in LIAISONS!, the stage musical version of DANGEROUS LIAISONS, a property made famous on the page originally by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, on the stage (in play form, by Christopher Hampton) and perhaps most notably on the screen with the 1988 Stephen Frears film starring John Malkovich, Glenn Close and Uma Thurman.

The song was penned by Tony Award-winning SMASH songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

In LIAISONS!, SMASH guest star Sean Hayes assumes the role played by Malkovich in the film, that of Vicomte de Valmont.

Incidentally, in LIAISONS!, Hilty essays the role of Cecile, originally played in the Frears film by SMASH Season One guest star Uma Thurman.

SMASH airs Tuesdays at 10 PM on NBC.

"A Letter From Cecile" is available for download now on iTunes here.
