SLCC to Host Vocal Jazz Festival Grand Concert, 2/14

The Salt Lake Community College Music Department, The SLCC Arts and Cultural Event Committee, The American Choral Directors Association, and The Grand Theater present: the seventh annual SLCC Vocal Jazz Festival Grand Concert on Thursday February 14 at 7:30 p.m. in The Grand Theater.

The concert features Kelly Eisenhour and 6 Miles Ahead in concert, Thursday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m. in The Grand Theater. The SLCC Jazz Choir-recently returned from its performance at the 2013 Presidential Inauguration festivities in Washington D.C.-will open the concert.

Eisenhour is a leading performer and educator in the country. She has toured as guest soloist with the Boston Pops conducted by Keith Lockhart, and is the newest addition to vocal ensemble, Groove For Thought, featured on NBC's "The Sing Off." She contributed significantly to the 2006 Grammy award winning album, "Gladys Knight: One Voice", and has three solo jazz recordings to her credit including, "Seek and Find" featuring Bob Mintzer, and "Kelly Eisenhour with the Jeff Hamilton Trio."

6 Miles Ahead has garnered respect as Utah's premiere vocal jazz ensemble. The group combines lush harmonies with scatting and soloing. 6 Miles Ahead will be backed by local performers Jay Lawrence,Steve Keen, and Matt Larson. The program will also feature selected student performers from the day's festival who will present Numbers from various forms of contemporary music.

Tickets prices are $10 for students and those 65+, and $12 for adults. Children 3 and under get in free. Tickets can be purchased by contacting The Grand Theatre Box Office at: 801-957-3322. Ticket office hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

About the SLCC Vocal Jazz Festival: The festival is an annual event where participants explore the technically demanding and artistically challenging realm of vocal Jazz and other contemporary music. Through a live, interactive setting of workshops and performances, The Festival will expand and improve the musicianship, education, and career possibilities of vocalists residing in Utah and neighboring areas.
