South East London's Russ Chimes has been an unwavering talent as producer, songwriter, remixer, and DJ for the past 7 years now. Every turn as an artist he's provided us with excellence within his work and the start of 2017 sees no change in form. Premiering yesterday on Clash comes the stunning 'Drift' featuring Iris Gold. Listen below:

Listen: Russ Chimes - Drift (Feat Iris Gold)

Four minutes of flawless production and vocal ability, 'Drift' is a huge statement of intent from Russ going in to a New Year. With nods to the likes of Massive Attack and Portishead the record carries an eery, ominous tone that arrests the listener from the word go. With pounding drums and immaculate sound-design, Russ sets the perfect backdrop to Iris Gold's poetic topline. She sings of a constant battle with herself and another that stirs an instant emotive response. Memorable lines such as 'shoulders holding boulders' and the repetition of 'don't pose, me froze, breath in' ring in your ear after compulsive repeat listening. 'Drift' is a master class in how to captivate your audience.

'Drift' is out now on Russ Chimes' own imprint 'Uno Mas Records'. Be sure to keep a look out for the video next week, directed by up and coming director Anna Brooks.

About Russ Chimes Formerly a graphic designer, Russ took to the music world immediately at the turn of 2010 with the incredible 'Midnight Club' EP on Eye Industries. Afer it quickly achieved cult status, from there he remixed pop royalty from Mark Ronson to Ellie Goulding.

Russ then went on to achieve pop success himself with the Top 40 hit 'Turn Me Out'. Support from BBC Radio 1 tastemakers Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, B-Traits and Monki led to a quick signing to Columbia and a host of big syncs.

Now in charge of his own imprint Uno Mas Records, Russ resisted a follow up in a similar vein to his admitted "Track for DJ sets that ended up on the radio". Instead, he went back into the studio and hit reset, working on a new batch of music that spoke more about him as an artist. He has gone on to release an incredible array of records, from the Sula EP to 'Russ Chimes presents: Terraza'.

Now in 2017, as he goes on to work with other artists such as George Maple and exploring new sounds within his solo project, this year is set to go from strength to strength for Russ.
