NYC rock singer Samia is releasing her smoldering new single "Soul On Fire" with a full band show this Friday the 13th, 8:30pm, at Arlene's Grocery (95 Stanton St between Ludlow & Orchard.)
Samia made waves earlier this year with her music video for marriage equality anthem "We Have The Right," which she sang from a float during this year's NYC Pride Parade. The single, the sixth track on her debut EP, earned her a featured article and two-page spread in the December 2013 issue of Curve Magazine, the nation's best-selling lesbian lifestyle magazine.
With influences as wide-ranging as Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Freddie Mercury, and Aretha Franklin, Samia's music and voice are a soul-stirring, heart-thumping blend of rock, pop, blues, and soul. Her voice travels effortlessly through her unbelievable range; she can transition from a deep, husky alto to a soaring powerhouse belt in a heartbeat. Her songs are written from her own experiences, and the thread that runs through all of her music and live performances is a passionate authenticity. When Samia sings, she sings from her soul, and she sings her truth.
