Robert Glasper Named Music Director of 16th Annual More Music @ The Moore

STG has announced GRAMMY Award-winning musician and record producer Robert Glasper as Music Director for the 16th annual More Music @ The Moore.

As Music Director, Mr. Glasper will spend a week working with local musicians ages 14-21 to provide mentorship and assist them with further developing their music performance skills. At the end of the week, Mr. Glasper will join the participants in two live performances, a student matinee and public performance, at The Moore Theatre on March 24, 2017.

"Seattle has always been known for super talented musicians, including several personal friends of mine!" said Mr. Glasper. "I can't wait to engage with the budding batch of new talented artists in this program."

Houston native Robert Glasper studied at New School University in New York City, where he began performing with Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett, Terence Blanchard, and Roy Hargrove. After releasing his debut album Mood in 2003 Glasper signed to Blue Note Records where his albums have included Canvas (2005), In My Element (2007), Double-Booked (2009), and RGX's 2012 breakout Black Radio, which won Best R&B Album at the 2013 GRAMMY Awards. RGX's Black Radio 2 (2013) won Glasper a second GRAMMY Award and in 2015, Glasper reunited his original acoustic trio for the GRAMMY-nominated album Covered (The Robert Glasper Trio recorded live at Capitol Studios). That year, Glasper contributed to Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, and composed the original music for the MiLes Davis film Miles Ahead, directed by and starring Don Cheadle. In 2016, Glasper released two albums: Everything's Beautiful, his re-imagination of the MiLes Davis catalog, and ArtScience with the Robert Glasper Experiment. He is an official Steinway Artist. Robert Glasper most recently performed in Seattle at the Neptune Theatre.

Young artists in Moore Music @ The Moore have collaborated and performed with The Roots, Sheila E., Elvis Costello, Mike McCready, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, Meshell Ndegeocello, Michael Shrieve, Alan White, and more! Past participants have included ParisAlexa, Otieno Terry, Austin Jenckes, Emily Randolph of NBC's "The Voice," international Opera star J'Nai Bridges, members of Thunderpussy, members of Blake Lewis band, members of Visqueen, and numerous other touring artists, music teachers, and music professionals.

More Music @ The Moore is a young artist development program for selected young musicians representing diverse music genres. The program provides young artists training and rehearsal time with professional musicians, production and promotional support, and the opportunity to perform at a professional venue, The Moore Theatre. Artists are selected through an audition process. More Music @ The Moore will be streamed live to sick children and teens in hospitals by non-profit organization Melodic Caring Project, one of STG's valued community partners.
