Indie rockers Szabo (www.szaboband.com) has landed their second Hollywood Music In Media Award (HMMA) nomination for their song "Minnesota" in the Adult Contemporary/AAA category. "Minnesota," from their new EP "Get Wasted," is a story song about a hipster chick that eases from a bossa nova beginning into a high-octane rock chorus.
Szabo and other nominees will vie for top honors at the ceremonies at the historicFonda Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, November 21, 2013. The HMMAs honor music from visual mediums, individuals who create and produce it, and both mainstream and independent musicians from around the globe.
The Vegas-based band recently launched a radio campaign for their EP "Get Wasted," with adds hitting Triple A and College Radio stations across the country. The four tracks from the EP are promoted by radio veterans Peter Hay and Sali Zeil of Twin Vision.
The band recently celebrated the release of "Get Wasted" with a special party at Artifice Bar & Lounge following local TV appearances on FOX's More Access and ABC's Morning Blend.
Led by charismatic front man Elliot Szabo, the four-piece act has emerged as a powerhouse live band rooted in Sin City in recent years. Their high-octane, raw indie sound is emerging at a time when '90s rock resurgence is on an upswing, regaining an important foothold in the alternative music market.
The debut EP "Get Wasted" is a fiery mix of distorted guitars reminiscent of '90s alt-rock and keyboard and electronic textures synonymous with classic new wave.Surf Rock Music gushes, "This debut EP... has four tunes to which I have an unrelenting addiction." The creative seeds of the recording were planted months before when Elliot took up a wild challenge to enter songs in a contest sponsored by an indie magazine and subsequently, over the course of the next two weeks, wrote 12 songs while holed up in a local studio. "Get Wasted" was recorded and mixed at Battle Born Studios, owned by Vegas-based superstars The Killers.
