Musician and songwriter Regina Spektor has composed the original theme song for the Netflix Original Series, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, it was announced today. The song, "You've Got Time," plays in an edited version over the series' eye-catching opening title sequence, which features arresting images of the faces of female former prisoners.

The hour-long series from creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan stars Taylor Schilling, and is based on the popular memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman.

Spektor's full-length version of the series theme song will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other major digital music service providers beginning Tuesday, July 9. "Orange is the New Black" premieres on Thursday, July 11 at 12:01 AM PDT in all territories where Netflix is available - U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Latin America, Brazil and the Nordics.

Said series creator and executive producer Kohan, "I listened to Regina's albums obsessively while writing the series, so I immediately thought of her for our theme song. I love Regina and I'm so grateful she agreed to do it. I had total faith in her and she nailed it. I think she's a genius."

Said Spektor, "When we met in New York, Jenji painted such an exciting and clear picture of the series that I started to hear some ideas right away. Jenji has a way of putting so much humor and heart into her work that by the time I was sent a few episodes I was completely hooked on all the stories. It's a unique and great series - and I'm so glad she invited me to be a part of it!"

The release of Regina Spektor's newest single comes as the New York-based artist prepares to embark on her 2013 Summer Tour of mostly European venues including headline festival appearances at England's Secret GArden Party, Sweden's Stockholm Music and Arts Festival, and Germany's Haldern Pop Festival. Regina will also headline her own concert at historic Caesarea in Israel on August 24.

Regina will record the follow up to 2012's What We Saw From The Cheap Seats (Sire) in 2014.

"Orange is the New Black" follows engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), whose decade-old relationship with drug-runner Alex (Laura Prepon) results in her arrest and 15-month long detention in a federal penitentiary. To pay her debt to society, Piper must trade her comfortable New York life with fiancé Larry (Jason Biggs) for an orange prison jumpsuit and a baffling prison culture where she is forced to question everything she believes and form unexpected new alliances with a group of eccentric and outspoken inmates. The series' diverse ensemble also includes Kate
Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Pablo Schreiber, Danielle Brooks, Laverne Cox and Taryn Manning.

"Orange is the New Black" has already been renewed for a second season, which is set to begin production later this summer. The series is executive produced by Kohan. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television for Netflix.
