Red Bull Music Presents 'Makaya McCraven's Universal Beings' This December

Red Bull Music Presents' inaugural New York show will celebrate the release of Makaya McCraven's much-anticipated 2018 album, Universal Beings. The album is composed of recordings the accomplished jazz composer created during intimate sessions in New York, London, Chicago and Los Angeles with old friends and new collaborators. Some notable artists from the sessions who will join Makaya for the celebration in New York include Jeff Parker, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Carlos Niño, Brandee Younger and Nubya Garcia.

Today, ahead of the official launch of Universal Beings, McCraven has released a brand new track titled, "Butterss's". The latest single offers an inside glimpse into the variety of distinct elements and musical influences that can be expected on the upcoming album.

Scheduled to release on October 26th, Universal Beings was developed across Chicago, London, New York and Los Angeles, resulting in a distinct blend of sounds from across the world. While traveling across those four cities, McCraven recorded jam sessions with various musicians based in those locations and then pieced together portions of each session to create the dynamic album. Universal Beings resulted in a collection of brilliantly smooth and sometimes muted suites that erase any division between jazz and hip-hop.

Born in Paris, McCraven was exposed to a variety of cultures and influences that provided him with an understanding of the range of sounds and musical compositions that exist. The established artist developed his unique hybrid of jazz and hip-hop at UMass Amherst before moving to Chicago and embedding himself in the local music scene, releasing several critically acclaimed albums and touring his genre-defying music around the world.

This will be the second time ever McCraven and the collaborators who created Universal Beings will perform together on stage, with the first time being in Chicago as part of the Red Bull Music Festival on Thursday, November 29th. The event will showcase music's enduring universality, while also highlighting McCraven's undeniable talent as an artist, producer, composer and more.
