Singer-songwriter Kelsi Luck, recently signed to a singles deal with eOne, is announcing an exclusive writing collaboration with Claudia Mills, one of the UK's preeminent pop songwriters. Mills will serve as the only top-line writer for Luck's not-yet-titled forthcoming debut album.
"Claudia's writing style is essential to my career," Luck said. "She helps me express what I want to say within my music like no other songwriter I've worked with. We're recording exciting new songs that will stand out in today's market as something musically innovative."
Earlier this year, Luck recorded the singles, "Weekend," "Straighten You Out," "We Are" and "Gypsie Heart," each co-written by Mills. Luck also has recorded the single "You Never Take Me Dancing," due out later this summer. The tracks will make up an EP that's expected to release before the end of the year.
"We're taking elements from all of our old influences from the 50s and 60s style of pop music," said the 19-year old Mills, adding Luck's influences are Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. "Kelsi wanted to work with me exclusively because she needed songs that are radio hits."
Luck, 22, from St. Louis, transplanted to LA to pursue music under the direction of producer Blake Healy, formerly of Metro Station. Her single and music video, "That's What I Like," punctuated her arrival as a burgeoning artist to watch in pop music. Now a YouTube sensation, the song is featured in the trailer for CBS Films' "The To Do List" starring Aubrey Plaza. It has been placed in TV promos for FOX and ESPN, and reached No. 19 on the Top 45 Countdown on Sirius XM Radio New York.
Mills' songwriting has helped sell more than 750,000 albums worldwide. She wrote "Puppet" for the album, "Headlines," from electro pop group, The Saturdays (Geffen/UK). The album reached No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and the European Top 100 albums list.
Mills has written with Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas), David Gamson (Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert), Quiz Larossi (Coverdrive, Kelly Clarkson) and DarkChild producer, Harmony. She's also written exclusively for BMG Chrysalis and EMI Records artists.
Luck is on tour this summer with The Ready Set. She'll next perform today at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif.
