Pop singer-songwriter Rebecca Black today released her long-awaited debut EP RE/BL (Spotify). Refinery29 (link) first debuted the new music video today for her latest inspiring single, "Heart Full of Scars," explaining that it, "proves she (& you!) can make it through anything." Black continues to surprise, silencing critics and defying expectation, creating provocative pop music that explores her very personal journey from viral hate to acceptance and confidence.
RE/BL, her debut 6-song EP, features "Heart Full of Scars," as well as singles, "The Great Divide" - which reached Top 25 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs Chart - "Foolish," which Entertainment Weekly called an "Addictive electro-pop jam... awesome new single" - and previously unreleased tracks, "Satellite" and "Wasted Youth."
Fans can hear the new EP live this fall when she will be joined by LGBTQ YouTube stars
Miles McKenna (formerly known as Amanda McKenna) and
Shannon Beveridge to kick off the "Love is Love" tour, a 17-date, nationwide tour that aims to unite an underserved group of Americans online with an interactive live experience focused on acceptance, anti-bullying and equality. The unique touring experience, presented by AT&T's thx2att and Fullscreen Media, will kick off October 1 at Chicago's Logan Square
Auditorium before visiting major cities across the country. Tickets are on sale now
here, tour dates attached below.
What at first would seem improbable is actually the result of a multi-year plan the singer instituted after taking a long sabbatical following her meteoric rise to international notoriety. In 2011, Black, then a 13-year-old, eighth-grade student, was thrust into a media maelstrom after a novelty music video her mother paid to have produced as a gift was uploaded to YouTube and went viral, turning the song -and her name- into a national punch line.
Following "Friday," the singer withdrew from public, eventually setting herself up on YouTube, where she developed a devoted audience who enjoyed tuning in to see Black share her life. Subscribers quickly grew to nearly 1.5 million, providing her an important outlet to talk directly to fans and try out new music. Emboldened by the support, Black worked on her songwriting and eventually headed back into the studio where she continues to write and record new music. The singer enjoys using her second chance at success to serve as an inspiration to her fans and supporters across her growing social media channels.
