Rascal Flatts rocked the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles last night in Burbank with a live performance for the iHeartRadio Country Live Series to celebrate the release of their new album "Rewind," out in stores today. The event, hosted by Cody Alan, Host and Executive Producer of radio shows: CMT After MidNite, CMT Radio Live, CMT All Access and CMT's signature music TV show, Hot 20 Countdown, broadcasted live on-air as a 30-minute special on Clear Channel Country radio stations throughout the country, with a 60-minute live video stream online across station websites and iHeartRadio.com.
The band opened the show with the title track off their new album "Rewind." They performed four songs off their new album including, "I've Never Been to Memphis," "Payback," and "Riot." See below for the full set list.
They talked about the process of making this album and finding a new sound. For "Rewind" they used different producers along with producing themselves. Joe Don stated "When you have hits, people start target writing songs for you." Jay told Cody their songs have to be "hooky" with a big chorus. He went on to say that "If Gary ever hits puberty we're going to have to find a new lead singer."
Cody asked what's easier, giving birth to a new baby or a new album? They told the audience it takes nine months to make a baby, and a year and a half to make this album. They also discussed having their kids with them on the road.
Sheryl Crow will be joining Rascal Flatts for upcoming shows as part of their "Rewind" Tour this summer. While Jay was discussing the tour with Cody, Gary began free styling his favorite Sheryl Crow songs.
During the intimate show, Cody asked the band what's still left on their bucket list and one night you'd like to rewind to? Gary told him to win entertainer of the year. He said they've been fortunate to not only tell their story, but to tell other peoples stories as well through their music.
There are two moments the band talked to Cody about reliving: The first was the night Rascal Flatts was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2011. The second was the Rascal Flatts Surgery Center dedication to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Before closing out the show, Rascal Flatts discussed their very busy upcoming schedule. Cody asked what it's like doing The Today Show? Jay told him he never realized there are two Five O' Clocks in a day, until they started doing this.
