An unusually gleeful string band that celebrates both tradition and improvisation, Rani Arbo and daisy mayhem play sparkling original songs and a deep repertoire of traditional tunes that spans 200 years of American music. Using fiddle, guitar, standup bass, bass drum, tin can cymbals, ukulele and more, this mom-run band immerses its audience in an unforgettably beautiful morning of song.
Rani Arbo grew up in the Upper Westside, was once a chorister at Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and is now raising a son in Connecticut with her husband and bandmate Scott Kessel. The band daisy mayhem also includes vocals and multi-instrumental virtuosity from Andrew Kinsey and Anand Nayak (who also performs with SteveSongs and Alastair Moock).

Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem’s first family music CD, Ranky Tanky, gets regular spins on Sirius Satellite Radio. It won a Parents' Choice Gold award and made several “best of the year” lists in 2010. Rani will soon release a new album for grown-ups, too.

About Just Kidding
Every Saturday from October through May, Symphony Space continues their tradition of offering New York families ground-breaking programming from around the country. This year, the Upper West Side cultural mecca hosts dozens of family-centric performances, including the return of perennial favorites Elizabeth Mitchell, Gustafer Yellowgold and Justin Roberts. Other standouts for this winter and spring include “kindie rock” stars Shine and the Moonbeams, The Okee Dokee Brothers, Recess Monkey and Caspar Babypants (also known as Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the USA).
