On July 22, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host 'Old School Night' at the 31st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field in Crown Heights, with Rakim, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane and Chubb Rock.

"Once again, New York City's two largest free outdoor music series will be bringing sweet summer sounds to Brooklyn for music lovers to enjoy absolutely free," said BP Markowitz. "With Rakim, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane, Chubb Rock and so many other great acts on the big stage of Brooklyn,USA-Wingate Field is the place to be this summer!"

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series brings a star-studded lineup of classic soul, R&B, contemporary, Caribbean and gospel artists. The free concerts are Monday nights at Wingate Field, with entrances on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. The public is encouraged to bring their own chairs. A limited amount of general seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The program begins at 7:30pm.

Additionally, for more than three decades, the Seaside Summer Concert Series has also attracted top name classic rock, pop, oldies, contemporary and Latin performers to Coney Island. This summer, the shows will again be held at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, next to the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. A limited number of $5 rental chairs in a specially designated area are available on a first come, first served basis. All shows are Thursday nights-except for the last show on August 21-and all begin at 7:30pm.

For more than twenty years, while he was a state senator, Marty Markowitz worked along with the Seaside Summer Concert Series and the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series to bring some of the best live entertainment to Brooklyn. Now as Brooklyn Borough President, he continues to host the concerts that have entertained hundreds of thousands of residents over the years.
