Acclaimed genre-defying band RAILROAD EARTH will release a new EP, Captain Nowhere, Friday, July 14 in conjunction with their performance at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Recorded late last year during short breaks from their arduous touring schedule, the six-song collection captures the group at their rock/country/bluegrass best. Check out Relix's premiere of the EP's "Adding My Voice" here.

The Red Rocks show--with support from Leftover Salmon and Keller & The Keels--marks a return to one of the country's most beautiful venues. In a review of Railroad Earth's 2015 concert there, the Denver Post said, "The six-piece act is a tough one to classify; all the workings of a traditional bluegrass band are there, but the driving presence of drummer Carey Harmon makes the music danceable and even funky at times. On top of this, the band is equally comfortable diving into traditional Irish jigs (with the versatile John Skehan on bouzouki), finger-picking hoedowns ('Cold Water') and folk ballads led by laidback frontman Todd Sheaffer." And in a special thank-you to their live fans, everyone attending the Red Rocks show will--thanks to their friends at AEG will go home with a copy of Captain Nowhere.

Described by the New York Times as a "jam band with the lineup of a traditional bluegrass band plus a drummer," Railroad Earth have released six full-length albums since getting together in New Jersey in 2001. Widely acclaimed for their tight musicianship and expansive live improvisation, the band has developed a rabid national fanbase and tour year-round, both at major festivals and their own headlining shows.

The band--Todd Sheaffer (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Tim Carbone (violin, accordion, electric guitar, vocals), John Skehan (mandolin, bouzouki, piano, vocals), Andy Gosseling (guitar, banjo, dobro, percussion, saxophones etc.), Carey Harmon (drums, vocals), Andrew Altman (bass, vocals)--is on tour all year, with dates confirmed through mid-December.

"I'm excited for the official release of the new Railroad Earth e.p.!," says Scheaffer. "We recorded the new music last November with Mark Howard producing. The new collection, though only six tracks, covers a lot of ground: songs freshly inspired by the times we're living in, songs inspired by ancient myth, new songs, songs that have been under construction for a good while, instrumental explorations, blazing pickers, ambient moods. 'Captain Nowhere,' the 'epic' of the record is the title of the e.p. and the title track. Bon Voyage, Captain!"

The group's last album was 2014's Last Of The Outlaws.

Here's the track listing for Captain Nowhere:
