RY X Shares Video for YAYAYA, US Tour Happening Now Image

Following excellent reviews for his new album Unfurl, released last month via Infectious, RY X has today shared a visually arresting video for new single "YaYaYa".

Of the video RY says: "In the creation of this video I wanted to explore the balance of masculine and feminine in its divinity and sensuality, and allow the feminine to take on the likeness and analogy of elemental nature too. The greater arc and theme was that of the opening mind, of what we perceive our world to be, and the breaking open of that into new landscapes. I brought on the beautiful artist KaytenSchmidt to hold the space of the feminine in this piece and directed it with a well-known photographer, Dean Bradshaw, to capture the beauty of form and nature in remembrance of artists like Peter Hujar and Robert Mapplethorpe. By my side in creative direction was the wonderful woman and friend, Lefawnhawk, who is a powerful artist and visionary in her work individually and in collaboration. I feel honoured to carry out a vision in my mind with such wonderful people and artists around me."

Critical acclaim for Unfurl, out now on Infectious:

"There's a sense of spacious freedom to these songs... The ghost of Jeff Buckley walks on the melodramatic 'The Water', while 'YaYaYa' and 'Mallorca' are slices of gossamer pop heaven... Gorgeous." Uncut - 8/10

"Startlingly beautiful...The Australian further finesses the ambient, floaty, vaguely James Blakeian post-folk and alt-R&B that earned his debut plaudits." Sunday Times

"Stark, hushed digital ballads... RY layers guitar, keyboard drones and beats behind a panoply of voices, self-harmonising with whispers, cries and choral reverb... Bliss." MOJO

"The Australian singer-songwriter gives Arena-sized songs the intimacy of whispered fireside confessionals." The Observer

"A fragile, beautiful collection, anchored by powerful melodies... A striking, engaging second album." Record Collector - 4 stars ****

"Locating the sweet spot somewhere between James Blake, Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley, his orchestrations and svelte electronica are a finely balanced and luxurious concoction."

The Mirror

"Mellow beats draped with piano, subtle synth work and handsome vocals... RY X is a talented guy with a singular vision." DIY

"A tasteful mix of piano, acoustic guitar and electronica, and a falsetto so soft his voice becomes part of the soundscape... This second album sets a beautiful mood, perfect for playlists that conjure late-night atmospherics." Evening Standard

"The quiet storm that's hiding all across RY X's second outing evokes an intense passion. Each pulsating beat drums forward, building a level of sure-fire intensity." DORK - 4 stars ****

"Unfurl seems a pretty apt name for the album. It's many layers unfold and wrap themselves around you, like a warm blanket after an invigorating surf." CLASH
