Project Girl Performance Collective (projectgirlperformancecollective.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to the empowerment of young women through the performing arts, will debut a new show on September 16 about the devastating consequences of a lack of education for young girls. The show will be performed at the United Nations Foundation's Girl Up "Unite for Girls Tour" at The Times Center (242 W. 41 St) in New York City and is sponsored by Eirene's Center for Purpose, co-created by John Kluge and Michael Lindenmayer.

Project Girl Performance Collective is on a nationwide tour with the Girl Up Campaign to raise awareness about some of the challenges faced by girls in developing countries. Peggy Kerry, the nongovernmental organization (N.G.O.) liaison at the United States Mission, is a proud board member of Project Girl Performance Collective. "The young members of Project Girl," says Kerry, "give a voice to the 70 million girls in need of quality education in the developing countries."

Lovetta Conto, age 18, from Liberia, helped to fund a leadership and education program for youth through jewelry she designed from bullet casings in her war-torn country. "I am honored that Project Girl Performance Collective is telling my story," says Lovetta, "to empower girls around the world. There is no one better to raise awareness about this global crisis than young girls themselves."

"Not every girl gets the chance to go back to school in September," says Jessica Greer Morris, Executive Director of Project Girl Performance Collective who teaches the members of Project Girl about global issues and produces shows written by and performed by cast members.

Project Girl Performance Collective creates a safe space for girls to write and perform their own work and address contemporary social, political and cultural issues through the performing arts. Collective members are prolific songwriters, choreographers and spoken word poets who all write about human rights issues that affect girls both at home and abroad. They are committed to using theatre and performance to build awareness, elicit action, inspire social change, and to raise the status of girls worldwide.
