Today, Minnesota rhyme-singer Prof releases his brand new album, Pookie Baby, via Rhymesayers Entertainment, and drops a hilarious new video for his track "No."
Best known for his show-stopping live performances, with his new album Pookie Baby out today, Prof pulls back the curtain and invites the listener to join him for the most private of moments and turning the record into a high-class experience. As much of a showman as he is a shaman, Pookie Baby was poured out of the perspective of a man known for wild live shows, whose rigorous touring and performance schedule led to debilitating injuries. Grounded for months and undergoing multiple surgeries, Prof returned with a new perspective, and a new pair of gators. This new Pookie Baby persona is all cleaned up, teeming with unbridled sexuality, and suited with a multitude of styles that run the gamut from triple-time Chicago drill, to emotive and bluesy crooning. Pookie Baby helps clarify where this passion and the essence of Prof come from, and he's never been better dressed for it.
The new visual for "No" unflinchingly gives aggressive self-preservation the anthem it's always deserved. Pookie Baby is just as much the crowd-pleasing party animal's moment of prideful self-reflection, as it is the blueprint for making the most out of life, while navigating the hardships. Please remember to enjoy Pookie Baby responsibly.
Next up, Prof hits the road on The Pookie Baby Tour this spring. The tour will kick off at the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO on April 19, and close out in Sioux City, IA on May 19. The tour includes stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.
The last time we heard from Prof was on 2015's Liability. In addition to boasting high-profile guest spots from Waka Flocka Flame, Tech N9ne, and more, it bowed in the Top 20 of the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and spawned "Bar Breaker" and "Far Out," which both racked up over 1 million Spotify streams. It also earned acclaim from Rolling Stone who named him among "10 Artists You Need to Know: September" and fittingly called him, "A perverted Macklemore from a parallel universe with a fixation for debauchery and an ear for a pop hook." He first emerged in 2007 eventually distributing close to 200,000 records via his own Stophouse imprint. On an annual basis, he sells out a 4,000-plus capacity venue for his Prof Outdoors Festival. As expected, growth brings change. Pookie Baby offers a rare glimpse into a side of Prof not often seen and helps clarify where the essence of Prof comes from, and he's never been better dressed for it. Please remember to enjoy Pookie Baby responsibly.
